Mamelodi Sundowns Edge Closer

Mamelodi Sundowns got off to a flying start, courtesy of Lucas Ribeiro’s clinical finish. The Brazilian striker ended an 11-match goal drought with a clever tap-in, capitalizing on Sihle Nduli’s back pass. Ribeiro’s goal gave Sundowns an early 1-0 lead, setting the tone for a promising performance.

Sundowns continued to dominate, with Iqraam Rayners doubling the lead six minutes after the first goal. Ribeiro’s assist set up Rayners for a close-range finish. The Brazilians were on fire, with Arthur Sales adding a third goal in the 18th minute. His shot deflected off Thabo Moloisane, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Sundowns were 3-0 up, and it seemed like a rout was on the cards.

The second half was a more subdued affair, with both teams creating limited clear-cut chances. Sundowns’ 3-0 lead proved comfortable enough, and the match ended with the same scoreline.

With this win, Mamelodi Sundowns are poised to clinch their eighth consecutive league title. They need just one point from their next two games to virtually seal the championship. Alternatively, if Orlando Pirates slip up against Golden Arrows, Sundowns could secure the title without even playing their next matches.
