Peter Shalulile, the prolific Namibian striker and the linchpin of Mamelodi Sundowns’ recent dominance over South African football, has all but confirmed he is quitting the club. Following Sundowns’ win of their eighth consecutive Premiership crown, Shalulile said, “This is my last league medal, I will see you guys some other time,” which suggests his stay with the club might be coming to an end.
During a Pitchside Podcast interview last year on Mamelodi Sundowns, Shalulile discussed more at length about his motivations and mindset. He spoke about the importance of pressure in unveiling the performance, stating, “A footballer who isn’t under pressure isn’t a footballer. It’s like a diamond, you can’t mold it if there’s no pressure.” He continued further, “When there’s pressure, then your A-game appears and there’s no fear because you have nothing to prove. If you have something to prove, that’s when the mistakes creep in.” Shalulile also touched on his desire to inspire the generation after him, stating, “What drives me is the generation next. We don’t want to leave football hanging. We want to make sure when we retire, then people have seen what we did and they have learnt.”

Shalulile’s Mamelodi Sundowns deal runs out on June 30, 2025. Rumors have emerged that he is being targeted to move to Sudanian club Al-Hilal SC once the 2024/25 season ends. Mamelodi Sundowns have also allegedly placed a R75 million price on Shalulile as they esteem the forward in view of interest from clubs in the Middle East and North Africa.
Since joining Sundowns in 2020, Shalulile has been instrumental in his club’s success, claiming the PSL Golden Boot award for a second time and also contributing significantly to their league dominance. This season, however, has seen his form drop as he returned just one goal and one assist from 24 games in all competitions.
At the end of the season, Shalulile’s future remains one that is of huge interest. His potential departure would bring to an end a significant chapter for both the player and for Mamelodi Sundowns. Both fans and experts will be interested to see where his career takes him from here.
