Mamelodi Sundowns legend insists club captain Themba Zwane must be playing & not sitting on the bench – ‘He deserves to lift that trophy’
2016 CAF Champions League winner Teko Modise feels Masandawana captain Themba Zwane has to play in the final because his experience is crucial.
Mamelodi Sundowns set off for Cairo with a 1-1 draw from the first leg of their CAF Champions League final.
The result means they need a win or a better draw than 1-1 away from home to claim the trophy.
Sundowns will be fighting to win their second continental trophy, the previous one being in 2016.
Club legend Teko Modise, who lifted the trophy that year, believes Themba Zwane needs to be on the pitch.
Modise stated that Zwane is worthy of captaining the team and lifting the trophy.
In the first leg, Zwane was surprisingly kept on the bench as an unused substitute.
His exclusion took fans and pundits by surprise, given his experience and
and leadership.
Now all the action shifts to Cairo, where Masandawana will attempt to wrap up the deal and pursue their second star.
That is what Teko stated “I believe this is a great opportunity. It’s going to be difficult, it’s going to be draining, it’s going to be demanding, but get to the end of the Champions League final, I want to see Sundowns win the cup to seal the career of Themba Zwane, who’s been phenomenal,” Modise is quoted as saying by Kickoff. “I believe he deserves to win such. He deserves to be on that pitch. He deserves to lift that trophy for Mamelodi Sundowns, and I know that the players are behind that.”
