Farewell to Two Pirates Legends: Orlando Pirates’ Miguel Timm and Innocent Maela Depart
In a significant setback for Orlando Pirates, midfielder Miguel Timm and defender Innocent Maela departed the team, ending their stabilizing tenures with the Buccaneers.
Miguel Timm: The Midfield Maestro
Miguel Timm signed for Orlando Pirates in July 2022 from Marumo Gallants. For two seasons, he was an anchor at the middle, recognized by his composure and tactical awareness. Timm featured in 46 matches for the team, bringing a lot of solidity to their middle. He scored no goals during his stint at the Pirates, but his influence was also felt in building and breaking up opponents’ attacks.
A note of his time in office was the legendary display in the 2022 MTN 8 final against AmaZulu, in which he earned Man of the Match, assisting in the trophy’s victory by Orlando Pirates.
Innocent Maela: The Defensive Pillar
Innocent Maela, who joined through the Orlando Pirates Youth Development, returned to the club in 2017 after a productive loan stint with Thanda Royal Zulu FC. Over eight seasons, Maela became a fixture in the defence, featuring 144 times and scoring 5 goals. His leadership skills were rewarded as he was handed the captain’s armband, guiding the club through numerous campaigns.
Maela’s stint was characterized by solid performances and resilience, adding to the team defensive solidity. His dedication on and off the field made him a favorite with fans and a well-respected individual in the locker room.
A New Chapter Ahead
The departures of Timm and Maela signal a rebuilding era for Orlando Pirates as the club aims to fill the gaps and infuse new blood into the squad. Both stars left behind an impression of work ethic and professionalism, which can be used as a reference point for future Buccaneers.
As they bid farewell to pursue new challenges, the Orlando Pirates supporter base wishes them well for their future endeavors.
